New Blackout Leaves Five Playa del Carmen Neighborhoods and Puerto Aventuras Without Power

Streets in Playa del Carmen during a power outage, with traffic lights off and complete darkness.

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A new power outage left five neighborhoods in Playa del Carmen and the municipal office of Puerto Aventuras without electricity, with some areas remaining in the dark for more than six hours.

The neighborhoods affected for more than an hour were El Sisal, Misión Las Flores, Ejido Norte and Xcacel, while Puerto Aventuras had been without power for six hours, according to local reports.

Traffic lights went dark during the outage, turning the streets into a chaotic scene.

“We’re paying very high rates, but we don’t have the service, and the problem gets worse every day. We don’t know what’s happening, and the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) is not giving us an explanation,” said resident José Antonio García.

Residents are urging municipal authorities in Playa del Carmen to intervene, noting that just a week ago, CFE left four neighborhoods without electricity — and now the same situation has recurred.
