Cancún, Quintana Roo — Following a significant improvement in weather conditions, maritime authorities have authorized the gradual reopening of ports in northern Quintana Roo, allowing navigation and nautical activities to resume in the region.
Starting in the late evening of December 25, port captaincies began issuing official notices lifting the restrictions that had remained in effect due to poor weather, reported Ricardo Muleiro López, director of Asociados Náuticos de Quintana Roo.
He detailed that in the destinations of Isla Mujeres and Puerto Juárez, the green light was given to resume maritime operations from Wednesday night, allowing tourism service providers to return to work after several days of suspension.
Similarly, in Playa del Carmen, the Port Captaincy confirmed the full reopening of navigation within its jurisdiction, facilitating the reactivation of tours, maritime transfers, and other activities related to nautical tourism.
In the case of Puerto Morelos, the resumption of operations occurred during the morning of Thursday, December 26, specifically starting at 6:00 a.m., once it was verified that sea conditions were favorable for safe navigation.
Muleiro López noted that, although the ports are already open, maritime-tourism activities are developing gradually, operating at approximately 60 percent of their usual capacity, while service providers adjust their services.
He also indicated that an increase in demand is expected during the end of this week and throughout the next, estimating that operations could increase to up to 70 percent, provided the weather continues to be favorable.
In this regard, maritime authorities reiterated the call to both operators and visitors to maintain necessary precautionary measures.
Among these, respecting safety instructions and staying informed, with the aim of ensuring safe navigation during this holiday season of high tourist influx.
