Cancún, Quintana Roo — A mother and son have each been sentenced to 25 years in prison for the premeditated murder of four men in Cancún, the State Prosecutor’s Office of Quintana Roo announced.
Arturo Zurizaday Villaseñor Méndez, 36, known as “El Zuri,” and Delfina Yolanda Méndez Aguilar, 58, alias “La Güera,” both from Chetumal, were convicted after a trial that concluded on April 6. Prosecutors presented evidence proving their involvement in planning and carrying out the killings of four men identified as Pedro, Pablo, Miguel Enrique, and Luis.
According to the investigation, the pair used a fake drug purchase as a ruse to lure the victims to a hotel in the Supermanzana 64 area of Benito Juárez municipality. They instructed others to arrange a meeting where Luis and Miguel were to deliver two bags of narcotics.
Once the meeting took place, the assailants used a 9mm firearm to shoot the victims in the head, killing them at the scene.
In addition to the prison terms, the judge ordered the defendants to pay 1.259 million pesos in reparations for each victim, totaling 5.036 million pesos.
Separate Arrest in Playa del Carmen Shooting
In an unrelated case, the State Prosecutor’s Office reported the arrest of Jesús Abimael “N” for his alleged involvement in a shooting in Playa del Carmen on April 12 that left one person dead and another seriously injured.
The incident occurred in the irregular settlement of In House, where one victim died from three gunshot wounds to the head and hand. A second victim was shot twice in the chest and knee and remains in grave condition at a local hospital.
At the scene, forensic experts recovered spent shell casings in .223 and 9mm calibers, with the latter type typically restricted to military use.
Following a search operation by the Prosecutor’s Office and municipal police, the suspect was detained on Constituyentes Avenue in Playa del Carmen. Authorities seized firearms, ammunition, and a stolen motorcycle from the individual.
