Motorcyclist Critically Injured in Crash With Passenger Van on Highway 307

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A motorcyclist was critically injured and left unconscious Saturday after slamming into the rear of a passenger van on Federal Highway 307, authorities said.

The crash occurred on the stretch between Tulum and Playa del Carmen, near the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya. The rider, aboard a black Vento 250cc motorcycle, struck the back of a Toyota HiAce passenger van with economic number F-95, affiliated with the Lázaro Cárdenas del Río taxi union of Playa del Carmen.

Witnesses told officials the motorcyclist appeared to be speeding and weaving between vehicles before the collision. He apparently failed to stop in time and hit the van’s rear, causing significant damage to its bumper and rear window. The motorcycle was severely damaged.

The rider was thrown onto the asphalt, unconscious and unresponsive. Hotel lifeguards trained as paramedics arrived first and stabilized him until emergency services reached the scene. A medical unit from the firefighters’ corps, assigned to civil protection and based in Puerto Aventuras, then assessed him and rushed him to a hospital in Playa del Carmen under code red.

National Guard highway division officers responded to investigate and conduct an accident reconstruction. The van driver activated his insurance policy to cover the damages.
