Los Cabos, Baja California Sur — María Vargas, from the state of Jalisco, was crowned Miss Universe Mexico 2026 on Saturday, taking the title from Fátima Bosch at the pageant final held in Los Cabos.
Vargas, who holds a degree in international business and works as a writer and entrepreneur, was one of 32 contestants in this year’s competition. Her presentation highlighted resilience and personal transformation, a message that helped her stand out among the candidates.
As the new titleholder, Vargas will represent Mexico at the 75th Miss Universe pageant, scheduled for Nov. 24 at the José Miguel Agrelot Coliseum in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Bosch, who won the Miss Universe crown last year, will pass the international title to her successor at that ceremony.
