Mexico City — Mexico’s president welcomed the members of K-pop group BTS to the National Palace on Wednesday, drawing thousands of fans to the capital’s main square.

During the meeting, the president said that “music and values unite Mexico and South Korea,” according to a statement shared alongside an official photograph with the group.

The visit came ahead of BTS’s concerts in Mexico City as part of their world tour. Fans, known as ARMY, gathered early in the morning around the National Palace and packed the Zócalo plaza.

After the meeting, BTS members appeared on one of the palace’s balconies to wave to their supporters, sparking cheers from the crowd.

Officials described the meeting as part of an effort to strengthen cultural ties between Mexico and South Korea, following recent moves to expand the group’s presence in the country.
