Erosion Forces Beach Closure at Playa del Carmen Building

Erosion damage at the base of It Beach Combo building in Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Civil protection officials have closed access to the beach in front of the It Beach Combo building near Albatros Avenue and CTM after erosion caused a small collapse, leaving the structure’s foundation exposed to direct wave action.

The closure came after a minor landslide in the area revealed fragments of dislodged concrete blocks, though authorities reported no major structural damage so far.

At the site, the beach has virtually disappeared, reduced to less than a meter of sand width adjacent to the building, which was reportedly constructed on the coastal dune.

Municipal officials said the building itself has not been sealed off — only the beach access in front of it — while assessments are carried out to determine safety conditions.

As part of the response, specialists and engineering colleges will be consulted to conduct a structural analysis to evaluate both the current state of the building and potential future risks from ongoing coastal erosion.
