“Merida Booms as Second Busiest Stop on Maya Train! Find Out Why”

The Maya Train, a federal project that began operations on December 16, 2023, has transported 340,622 passengers as of August 14. The majority of these passengers are concentrated at six out of the 20 stops along the entire route.

Valladolid ranks fifth with 27,251 passengers, while Merida emerges as the second busiest station, having served 75,486 passengers. Cancun tops the list with 86,401 passengers, followed by Campeche and Playa del Carmen, with 34,481 and 31,896 passengers respectively. Palenque in Chiapas is the sixth busiest station, with 18,607 passengers.

These six stations alone have transported 274,122 passengers, accounting for 80.4 percent of the total ridership, as noted by General Director Óscar David Lozano Águila.

The Governor-elect has been receiving proposals from the business sector for the position of head of Economic Development. Of the total passengers, 248,700 purchased their tickets at ticket offices, while 91,922 booked their tickets via the official Maya Train website.

The Maya Train route spans 904 kilometers and features 24 stations, passing through the states of Chiapas, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatan, and Quintana Roo. At present, there are 10 trains in operation and two in reserve, providing twelve daily services that connect the entire route from Palenque to Playa del Carmen.
