Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Plans for a new medical unit in Puerto Aventuras remain in limbo as the land donation process for the project continues to move through multiple approval stages before reaching the city council.
According to Víctor Gasca Martínez, the IMSS (Mexican Social Security Institute) delegate in Quintana Roo, the project still needs to be formally added to an investment portfolio and must gather all necessary technical studies and data to ensure its feasibility and execution.
“It is still in the donation process; it has to go through several stages to be approved and to consolidate the project with all the necessary data,” Gasca explained.
Given Puerto Aventuras’ population growth, officials acknowledged the urgent need to expand medical infrastructure. However, they said work is currently focused on medium-term projections while efforts are made to expedite the procedures as much as possible.
No specific timeline has been set for the project’s completion. Authorities first need to define population growth estimates and service demand, information they expect to share in the short term.
Puerto Aventuras has experienced steady development in recent years, increasing the need for basic services, particularly healthcare, a priority area for the population.
