One of Two Men Missing After Jet Ski Trip Between Playa del Carmen and Cozumel Found Alive

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — José Eduardo C. A., 28, was found alive at sea on Tuesday after spending several days adrift following the disappearance of two men who set out on a jet ski trip between Playa del Carmen and Cozumel, the Quintana Roo state government said.

The survivor was severely dehydrated and was taken to a hospital in Benito Juárez for medical care.

Found by Search Vessel

The crew of the vessel Osiris spotted José Eduardo in the maritime zone where the search operation was underway. He received pre-hospital treatment because of his condition and was then taken to a hospital for further evaluation and care.

He had been reported missing along with a second man, identified as Francisco, after the two set off by jet ski across the stretch of sea separating Playa del Carmen and Cozumel. Francisco has not yet been located.

Search Operation Ongoing

After finding one of the men, authorities focused their efforts on locating the second. Search work remains active in the area, with patrols by the various agencies taking part in the operation.

The deployment includes personnel from the Mexican Navy (Semar), the Mexican Army (Sedena), the Public Security Department, the State Prosecutor’s Office, civil protection authorities, the port captaincy, the Red Cross and Playa del Carmen municipal police.

The agencies are continuing patrols and search actions in an effort to find Francisco alive.

Officials have not released details on the circumstances in which José Eduardo remained adrift, how long he spent at sea before being found, or the conditions under which the two men became separated or lost contact.

While José Eduardo receives medical treatment, the operation continues in the waters off the coast as authorities try to locate Francisco, who is still listed as missing.
