Holbox, Quintana Roo — The body of a tourist from Monterrey who went missing during a jet ski crossing from Playa del Carmen to Cozumel has been recovered near Holbox, authorities said.
Francisco Enrique Huerta Martínez had been reported missing since Sunday, when he and 28-year-old José Eduardo C. A. set out across the water on personal watercraft. According to initial reports, an apparent mechanical failure left both men adrift at sea, prompting a search operation.
On Wednesday afternoon, crew members aboard a passing vessel found José Eduardo alive. They pulled him from the water and took him to Puerto Juárez, where he received medical care for dehydration.
Search teams continued their efforts to locate Francisco Enrique after the rescue. His body was eventually spotted floating in waters near Holbox, and authorities carried out the procedures needed to recover it and move forward with the investigation.
The cause of death has not been officially determined. Officials said forensic examinations will establish the circumstances surrounding the death.
