Cozumel, Quintana Roo — Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa led the delivery of 21 new specialized vehicles for the Public Security and Transit Department of Cozumel, funded by a 25 million peso investment from the Cruise Tourism Trust.

During the event, Lezama was joined by trust members and highlighted the importance of coordinated efforts to ensure the safety of residents and visitors to the island.

Michele Paige, executive director of the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association, also attended, reaffirming collaboration between authorities and the cruise industry.

“All of this is for the benefit and well-being of the people, but also for the security of the cruise lines,” the governor said, emphasizing that these actions help maintain Cozumel as a reliable international destination.

The new fleet includes patrol cars, motorcycle patrols, all-terrain vehicles, and Racer-type vehicles designed for the island’s geographic and operational conditions. Among them is a Level III Plus armored vehicle for high-security operations. All units are equipped with communication technology, signaling systems, and protective gear meeting national standards, which will improve police response capabilities.

With this delivery, the Quintana Roo government reinforces its security strategy in key tourist areas, leveraging resources from the tourism sector for direct public benefit. The new vehicles aim to enhance surveillance and ensure optimal conditions for economic development and cruise arrivals, a main driver for the destination.
