Mérida, Yucatán — The Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco) and the National Chamber of Commerce, Services and Tourism (Canaco Servytur) Mérida have announced the Back-to-School Fair 2026, offering discounts of 10% to 30% on school supplies, uniforms, backpacks, books, and other items. The fair will take place on August 7, 8, and 9 at the Canaco Convention Center.
Profeco’s head in Yucatán, Víctor Cervera, said more than 13 vendors will participate with special promotions and complementary services for attendees.
“Participating vendors will offer school clothing, backpacks, books, stationery, and telecommunications services at fair prices, with clear promotions and discounts that help maximize family budgets,” Cervera said.
In addition to the commercial offerings, Profeco will provide legal advice on consumer matters, domestic technology workshops, and will have the participation of the IMSS Family Medicine Unit No. 52 (Mexican Social Security Institute), which will offer health guidance, glucose tests, blood pressure checks, and distribution of items such as toothbrushes and oral rehydration salts.
Cervera noted that the fair is part of a national strategy involving 55 similar events across the country, and that the previous edition attracted more than 7,000 consumers.
Canaco Servytur Mérida President Enrique Molina Casares urged families to plan their purchases and prioritize quality over price.
“Don’t buy because it’s cheap, but buy what you need and buy it with quality, because these are supplies that should last the whole year,” Molina said.
The business leader also noted that the back-to-school season often sees an increase in informal trade of school items, so the chamber is coordinating with Profeco and other authorities to report establishments operating outside formal channels and to promote fair competition.
The Back-to-School Fair 2026 will be open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Both Profeco and Canaco invited the public to take advantage of the promotions and purchase products from formally registered establishments with warranties and transparent prices.
