Cancún shooting leaves man dead in Supermanzana 101

Violent Early Morning in Cancún

Violence returned to Cancún in the early hours of Tuesday when a man lost his life after being shot in Supermanzana 101 specifically on 42nd Street. The incident occurred while the victim was gathered with other people allegedly socializing and consuming alcoholic beverages.

According to initial reports the attackers arrived at the site on a motorcycle and without warning fired weapons before fleeing. Neighbors alerted authorities after hearing the gunshots.

It was around 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday when support was requested through the 911 emergency number. Red Cross paramedics arrived minutes later but could only confirm the man’s death. He had at least four wounds to the chest and head caused by firearm projectiles.

At the scene the victim was identified as Henry P. 34 years old known among some people as “Shoker.” Unofficially it was revealed that the man had previously been incarcerated at the Cancún Social Reintegration Center and had regained his freedom some time ago.

Elements of the Secretariat of Citizen Security and Transit (Smspyt) with support from the State Police implemented an operation in surrounding streets to try to locate those responsible with no arrests reported so far. The area was cordoned off and remained under guard while personnel from Forensic Services and investigation agents carried out corresponding procedures.

Family members and acquaintances of the deceased went to the site confirming that he had been released from jail a few months ago not knowing if the motive for the attack stemmed from this or if there were other problems. For their part neighbors commented that the man no longer resided in the area and had only returned to visit friends and spend the holiday season not imagining the fatal outcome.

The State Attorney General’s Office opened an investigation file with the aim of clarifying the facts identifying the attackers and establishing the motive for this homicide. As part of the inquiries interviews were requested from all witnesses to provide details of what happened. Additionally some surveillance cameras were located that will be requested by authorities.
