Man Drowns in Tilapia Pond While Buying Fish in Playa del Carmen Community
Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A man died Monday afternoon after accidentally falling into a tilapia pond in the Vida y Esperanza community, authorities said.
The victim had gone to the pond to buy fish. According to the pond owner, the customer was looking at the water while the owner weighed the fish. When the owner turned back, the man was gone — only his cap was floating on the surface. The pond’s murky water prevented the owner from seeing the victim.
Civil protection personnel arrived at the scene and recovered the man’s body, but he was already deceased.
Officers from the State Prosecutor’s Office later arrived and took custody of the body.
