Tulum Man Held for Alleged Teen Cousin Abuse

TULUM, Mexico — A 26-year-old man identified as Leonardo “N” has been detained by investigative police from the State Attorney General's Office (FGE), in coordination with Tulum Municipal Police, for the alleged rape of his 17-year-old cousin.

According to the investigation file, the incident occurred in the informal settlement known as 2 de Octubre in this municipality. The suspect allegedly contacted his cousin under the pretext of asking to borrow money, claiming he was experiencing financial difficulties.

After failing to receive a favorable response, he persistently attempted to contact her again. He then argued that a money transfer had been erroneously deposited into the young woman's account and that he needed to withdraw the money in person.

The minor agreed to go to the address he provided to clarify the situation, but upon arrival, she noted that Leonardo was under the influence of alcohol. According to the victim's testimony, the man began to harass her and subsequently committed acts that led to the abuse complaint.

Following the complaint, the FGE activated victim support protocols and opened the corresponding investigation file. Based on the evidence presented and the testimonies gathered, a control judge issued an arrest warrant, which was executed by ministerial agents with support from the municipal police.

The accused was placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor's Office and subsequently presented before the judge, who determined he would be formally charged for the crime of abuse to the detriment of a minor.

As a precautionary measure, the judge imposed mandatory pre-trial detention while the judicial process develops.
