Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A man was hospitalized early Monday after a group of people beat him on Fifth Avenue, accusing him of sexually assaulting a woman in the city’s nightclub district.
The incident occurred on Calle 12 between Avenidas 10 and 15, one of the busiest nightlife areas in the city. Witnesses said the man, who appeared to be intoxicated, began exposing himself in public, causing discomfort among bystanders.
Minutes later, he allegedly approached a woman and slapped her buttocks without her consent. The victim’s friends saw the act and immediately confronted him.
The confrontation quickly escalated into a beating, leaving the man on the pavement with multiple injuries and nearly unconscious.
Tourist police officers and civil protection paramedics responded to the emergency call. After providing first aid, they determined he needed to be taken to the General Hospital for further treatment.
According to available information, those involved in the beating fled before authorities arrived, and no arrests were made at the scene.
As of this report, no authorities had confirmed whether a formal complaint had been filed or an investigation opened into either the alleged sexual assault or the injuries suffered by the man.
