Holbox, Quintana Roo — A joint operation by federal and state forces led to the arrest of a man in possession of nearly 100 doses of illegal drugs on this tourist island, where authorities have stepped up surveillance amid a persistent flow of narcotics.

The suspect, identified as Juan Diego “N,” was caught in the act by officers from the Centurion Group of the Public Security Department, operating in coordination with personnel from the Mexican Navy (SEMAR) and the Mexican Army (SEDENA).

According to the agencies involved, officers were conducting preventive patrols when they spotted a man suspiciously handling small transparent plastic bags. Noticing that the contents appeared to be marijuana, they stopped him for a routine search.

During the physical inspection, authorities seized an eco-friendly bag containing a shipment divided for alleged retail sale. In total, they counted 48 transparent plastic bags containing green, dry plant matter believed to be marijuana, and another 37 bags with crystalline fragments consistent with the synthetic drug known as crystal meth. They also confiscated a cell phone for analysis as part of the investigation.

Juan Diego “N” and the seized materials were immediately turned over to the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Drug Dealing, which will determine his legal status and investigate whether he is part of a criminal network operating in the island area of Lázaro Cárdenas.
