Valladolid, Yucatán — One person was killed and several others were injured when a passenger van crashed in heavy rain on the Mérida-Cancún highway Saturday afternoon, authorities said.
The van, operating on the Yaxcabá route, was carrying construction workers when it crashed at kilometer 52 of the stretch leading to Valladolid, on the federal road connecting Mérida and Cancún.
Emergency services launched a large-scale response. Officers from the state Public Security Department (SSP), personnel with the National Guard and multiple ambulances arrived at the scene to treat the wounded. The area was cordoned off to prevent further incidents and allow rescue work to proceed.
The State Prosecutor’s Office was notified, and investigators began processing the scene, including recovering the body and collecting evidence to establish the cause of the fatal crash.
