Land Dispute Erupts in Hunucmá as Residents Clash with Bachoco Over Property Rights

Protesters gather outside Hunucmá municipal palace demanding intervention in land dispute with Bachoco

Hunucmá, Yucatán — A confrontation between local residents and the company Bachoco has reignited tensions in Hunucmá, Yucatán, after more than 100 families reported that heavy machinery entered a disputed property known as La Estancia, destroying crops and structures they built over years of work.

The affected residents gathered at the Municipal Palace yesterday to demand authorities intervene and request a meeting with company representatives to clarify the legal status of the properties, which have been contested since 2025.

According to the residents, an agreement reached last year for financial compensation has not been fulfilled, and they now report that machinery has entered to demolish plantations and structures while company personnel block their access to the area.

In response, the municipal legal representative of Hunucmá committed to seeking an approach with Bachoco to organize a dialogue clarifying aspects of ownership, possession, and cadastral boundaries, as well as reviewing any pending agreements.

The residents reiterated that they depend on these lands for their livelihood and expressed their desire to find a peaceful solution to the conflict, while maintaining their firm demand for respect for the work and improvements they have made over the years.
