Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — An elderly woman was found dead in a rooming house in Playa del Carmen, with her body in an advanced state of decomposition indicating she had been deceased for several days.
The discovery occurred around 10:00 p.m. on Monday, March 23, in a rooming house located on Avenida 40 between Calles 40 and 42 Norte in the Zazil-Há neighborhood.
Neighbors reported foul odors emanating from a room in the area, prompting them to alert authorities. Municipal police officers arrived as first responders.
Preliminary investigations suggest the woman had been dead for approximately five days. Municipal police cordoned off the area while awaiting the arrival of Quintana Roo State Prosecutor’s Office agents, who will lead the investigation.
Forensic Medical Service personnel collected the remains for transport to the morgue, where an autopsy will be performed. The cause of death remains unknown, though authorities say it may be natural.
Recent Death in Medical Office
In a separate recent incident, a woman died of a heart attack while waiting to be seen at a Doctor Simi medical office in Playa del Carmen.
The approximately 50-year-old woman complained of chest pains while waiting for her appointment on Monday, February 2, at the intersection of Calles 98 and 30 in the Luis Donaldo Colosio neighborhood.
Municipal Public Security personnel responded and confirmed the woman had no vital signs. After the State Prosecutor’s Office determined she died of natural causes, authorities released the body to her family.
