Mérida, Yucatán — The Social Security Institute for State Workers of Yucatan (Isstey) has issued a fraud alert after receiving reports of phone calls offering fake loans of up to 600,000 pesos (about $30,000 USD).

Scammers posing as institute representatives contact beneficiaries, promising quick loans in exchange for personal or financial information. Isstey clarified that it never offers loans or financial support over the phone.

All loan applications are processed in person at institute offices or through authorized programs such as Isstey Movil, where staff wear official uniforms and carry identification. The institute never requests bank details, passwords, verification codes, or upfront payments via phone, text, or messaging apps.

Beneficiaries have reported the following phone numbers used in the scam:

  • 999 894 0494
  • 999 163 5878
  • 999 890 8869

Isstey urged anyone receiving such calls to hang up immediately, avoid sharing personal information, and report the number to authorities. It also recommended verifying all information through official channels only.
