Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo — The Isla Mujeres City Council has begun coordinating logistics for the 2026 Foundation Festivities, a month-long celebration marking the 176th anniversary of the municipality’s founding. Officials aim to ensure the events run smoothly, safely, and in an organized manner from August 1 to 28.

Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde led a working meeting at the Municipal Palace’s Cabildo Hall, where department heads reviewed logistics, programming, and responsibilities for each area during the festivities. The official program includes cultural, sports, artistic, religious, and family events, along with musical performances by Nelson Kanzela and La Casetera as headliners.

Gómez Ricalde emphasized that the festivities are among the island’s most cherished traditions and called for ongoing coordination among all departments to provide safe spaces and orderly coexistence for local families and visitors alike.

Representatives from the Mayor’s Office, Treasury, Public Security, Civil Protection, Public Services, Culture, Sports, Economic Development and Tourism, Communications, and the General Secretariat attended the meeting, among other areas that will form part of the special operation.

The municipal government invited residents and tourists to join the activities prepared to commemorate the 176th anniversary, featuring a program that brings together cultural, sports, recreational, and artistic expressions throughout August.
