Isla Mujeres launches cultural program at Punta Sur

Dancers in traditional costume performing at Punta Sur, Isla Mujeres

Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo — The municipal government of Isla Mujeres, led by Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde, has launched a new cultural program called “Magia en Punta Sur” aimed at strengthening the destination’s cultural and tourist offerings.

The initiative, organized through the Directorate General of Economic Development and Tourism, features artistic performances and traditional dances at Punta Sur, one of the island’s most iconic sites.

During the first event, dance groups “Juanita Méndez” and “Alma Caribeña” performed traditional music and dance wearing the regional costume known as La Trigueña, offering tourists and visitors a showcase of local talent and cultural heritage.

The program aligns with the “Culture and Tradition” pillar of Mexico’s Pueblos Mágicos program, designed to bring local artistic expressions to the thousands who visit Punta Sur daily, strengthening cultural identity and enhancing the tourist experience.

Mayor Gómez emphasized that the initiative helps preserve and promote the traditions that define Isla Mujeres’ identity while creating opportunities for local artists to share their work with national and international visitors.
