Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo — Playa Norte and Playa Centro have passed the International Audit Committee’s inspection with excellent scores, securing their continued Blue Flag certification.

The Blue Flag is an international eco-label awarded to beaches that meet high standards in water quality, safety, cleanliness, services, and environmental education. The certification is a key asset for sustainable tourism in the Mexican Caribbean.

Auditors evaluated multiple criteria related to the operation and maintenance of both beaches. The positive results were attributed to coordinated efforts between municipal authorities and staff from the Federal Maritime Terrestrial Zone.

Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde said the results reflect the ongoing work of crews dedicated to keeping the beaches clean, safe, and orderly for residents and visitors alike.

She added that maintaining international certifications helps solidify Isla Mujeres’ reputation as one of Quintana Roo’s top beach destinations.

The municipal government said it will continue to promote environmental initiatives and maintenance programs to preserve the Blue Flag certification and ensure the beaches remain in optimal condition for future generations and tourists.
