International 5K Race in Tulum Draws Runners From Six Countries

Runners participating in the 5K Run Tulum race along the coastal area of Tulum, Quintana Roo

Tulum, Quintana Roo — Runners from six countries took part Monday in the 5K Run Tulum, an international athletics event organized by local businesses to promote physical activity and attract more visitors to this Caribbean coast destination.

The race was held along Tulum’s coastal zone and drew athletes from the United States, Canada, Germany, Belgium, Poland and several Mexican states, who ran through the streets in a festive sporting atmosphere.

The event was spearheaded by Batey and Ink Tulum, companies led by businessman Miguel Vela, who stressed the importance of private-sector collaboration to develop activities that draw tourists and generate economic benefits for local shops and service providers.

The presence of competitors and visitors boosted business along Centauro Street, popularly known as Mini Quinta, where restaurants, cafés and other establishments saw increased foot traffic during the event.

According to organizers, the race is part of a strategy to diversify Tulum’s tourism offerings through sports and cultural experiences. They also offered incentives and special discounts for participants to strengthen ties between businesses and visitors.

Miguel Vela said such activities can become a tool to boost the local economy and project a positive international image of the destination. He invited more entrepreneurs to join future initiatives that help generate tourist traffic during different seasons.

Organizers said the response to this first edition confirms the interest of athletes and tourists in participating in sporting events in Tulum, and they did not rule out holding further competitions to continue promoting the destination and strengthening the local economy.
