Hurricane Rafael Approaches Quintana Roo with Blue Alert

The municipalities of Lázaro Cárdenas, Benito Juárez, Isla Mujeres, Puerto Morelos, and Cozumel in Quintana Roo are now under a blue alert due to the approaching Hurricane Rafael. The hurricane is currently a category 2 on the Saffir-Simpson scale and is situated 450 kilometers east-northeast of Cancún.

A blue alert signifies the detection of a tropical cyclone heading towards the coast, but with a minimum level of danger at the moment. The center of the hurricane is currently over land, to the west of Cuba, 50 kilometers southwest of Havana, and 450 kilometers east-northeast of Cancún, Quintana Roo, according to Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa's social media updates.

Hurricane Rafael is producing maximum sustained winds of 175 kilometers per hour, with gusts reaching up to 215 kilometers per hour, and moving northwest at a speed of 22 kilometers per hour. The governor has also warned that the extensive circulation of the hurricane will bring rain and intermittent showers, with rainfall amounts ranging from 5 to 25 millimeters, to Campeche, Yucatán, and Quintana Roo.
