Kantunilkín, Mexico — The island of Holbox has been named in the top ten destinations projected to gain the most popularity in the world, according to an annual ranking published by the prestigious brand "The Grand North America."
The ranking attributes the island's anticipated increase in popularity to its current focus on providing services designed to offer tourists an unforgettable experience within a setting of incredible landscapes.
In first place, the brand positioned the Revillagigedo Islands, located in Manzanillo, Colima, followed by the island of Holbox and then Marfa, Texas. The rise in popularity for this destination is expected to result in greater economic income for the tourism service providers in this area.
Regarding this ranking, Municipal President Nivardo Mena stated that, despite the island being classified as one of the primary destinations expected to see increased tourist activity, his administration will not lower its guard and will continue with tourism promotion at national and international fairs.
Currently, the island of Holbox boasts significant natural attractions, including the whale shark watching area, Isla Pájaros (Bird Island), the "Yalahau" freshwater spring, Isla de la Pasión (Passion Island), as well as the shallow sandbars where children can enjoy the waters safely.
Tourist activity on the island is currently holding at 80 percent occupancy but is expected to rebound during the December holiday season with the arrival of European tourists.
