Hit-and-Run Driver Kills Pedestrian on Cancun Highway 180-D
Cancun, Quintana Roo — A man was killed early Friday after being struck by a vehicle whose driver fled the scene on federal Highway 180-D, near the Tren Maya complex, authorities said.
Federal officials and investigators from the Quintana Roo State Prosecutor’s Office have launched an inquiry to identify the driver and determine the circumstances of the accident.
According to preliminary reports, the victim was attempting to cross the highway when he was hit by a vehicle that may have been speeding. The driver did not stop and left the area, remaining unidentified as of Friday.
Emergency services received a 911 call reporting the accident. When paramedics from a private ambulance arrived, they found the man had no vital signs due to the severity of his injuries.
The area was cordoned off for investigation. State prosecutor’s office personnel and forensic experts processed the scene and collected evidence to build the case file.
Authorities are continuing their efforts to determine the exact sequence of events and locate the driver responsible.
