Free MOBI Social Fare Credentialing Opens in Cancún Ahead of Route 27 Launch

Cancún, Quintana Roo — The Quintana Roo government has begun free enrollment for the MOBI social fare program in Cancún, a key step toward launching the city’s new public transit system on Route 27 Puente Nichupté.

The program, run by the state mobility institute IMOVEQROO, lets students, senior citizens and people with disabilities access discounted or free rides on the new system. It is part of Governor Mara Lezama’s “New Agreement for Welfare and Development,” which treats mobility as a social right.

“We are building a public transit system that puts people at the center,” said Rafael Hernández Kotasek, head of IMOVEQROO. “With MOBI, we’re not only adding modern vehicles and new technology; we’re also making sure that those who need it most have access to a dignified, safe service with fair fares.”

Enrollment began July 30 and runs Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at five locations:

People with disabilities will ride free, while students and seniors will receive a preferential rate each time they board a Route 27 bus, according to IMOVEQROO.

Documentation required

Students aged 6 and older must bring their CURP (population registry code), proof of address, a current school enrollment certificate and a valid voter ID (INE) when applicable. Senior citizens need a valid INE, proof of address and an INAPAM credential. People with disabilities must provide a valid INE (or CURP for minors), proof of address and an official document certifying permanent disability.

The social fare card is valid for one year for students and three years for seniors and people with disabilities.

MOBI is the state’s new transit model, featuring modern buses and electronic fare collection.
