Opichén, Yucatán — A Mexican renewables developer has filed an environmental impact study for a 170 million peso solar park in this Yucatán municipality, a project that would feed up to 60 megawatts of alternating current into the regional grid.

Planeta Ekofuturo, which operates under the brand Fortaleza Energy, submitted the Environmental Impact Statement (MIA) to Semarnat, the federal Environment and Natural Resources Secretariat, for the Albatros 2 photovoltaic plant.

The company estimates a 16-month construction period and an operational lifespan of 25 years for the facility.

Technical specifications

  • Installed capacity of 72.56 megawatts peak (MWp) and a maximum injection capacity of 60 megawatts of alternating current (MWac).
  • 101,490 bifacial modules rated at 715 Wp each.
  • 209 Huawei inverters, 11 transformer stations and single-axis solar trackers.
  • A double-circuit overhead transmission line at 115 kilovolts, roughly 3.72 kilometers long, connecting to the Maxcanú-Ticul II line.

Land use and conservation

The project would occupy a 263.92-hectare site. Of that total, 122.81 hectares would hold the solar infrastructure and would require authorization for a change of land use on forested terrain.

Another 47.33 hectares would be set aside to protect local flora and fauna, including species listed under Mexican environmental standard NOM-059-SEMARNAT-2010, while 93.77 hectares would remain untouched.

The Yucatán state government issued its urban-environmental feasibility opinion for the project in June 2026, but the company still needs federal approvals for environmental impact and land-use change before construction can begin.
