Cancun, Quintana Roo — Former students and parents are rallying behind a teacher at Bachilleres Cancun Uno high school who is under investigation following an abuse allegation made by a student.

The teacher was taken into custody by officers from the Specialized Group for Attention to Family and Gender Violence (Geavig) after the student filed a complaint. Unofficial reports also suggest the teacher was physically attacked by relatives of the accuser before authorities intervened.

In response, a 28-year-old woman who is now a teacher herself came forward to share her experience as a former student of the accused instructor. She had him as a chemistry teacher at Prepa Azteca about 13 years ago.

“It was the best class at a stage in life when you often didn’t know what you wanted to do with your future,” she said in her testimony.

She recalled that the teacher would include a personal question at the end of each exam and then discuss students’ answers with them, creating a trusting classroom environment. She also remembered science experiments conducted under safety protocols, including chemical reaction demonstrations and exercises explaining the properties of helium.

Another former student from COBACH said she never witnessed inappropriate behavior toward students or staff during her time in his class. “He taught us values like respect, responsibility, honesty, and a love for learning. Thanks to him, many of us discovered that science could be exciting,” she said.

The testimonies add to a growing number of social media posts from former students sharing positive experiences and calling for a fair investigation. The State Prosecutor’s Office and other authorities continue their inquiries, with no judicial resolution yet. Officials say the investigation will determine criminal responsibility based on evidence while guaranteeing the rights of all involved.
