Fire at Dunosusa Store in Chetumal Causes Estimated 2 Million Pesos in Damages
Chetumal, Quintana Roo — A fire early Saturday morning at a Dunosusa grocery store in Chetumal caused an estimated 2 million pesos (about $100,000) in damages, authorities said.
The blaze broke out at the store located at the intersection of 16 de Septiembre and Venustiano Carranza avenues. Firefighters, rescue personnel, and paramedics responded and worked together to contain the fire and ensure public safety.
Police cordoned off the area to prevent accidents and allow emergency vehicles to pass.
Firefighters used specialized equipment to prevent the flames from spreading to nearby buildings. The intensity of the fire made it impossible to immediately determine the cause.
During the operation, a female firefighter suffered smoke inhalation inside the store. She was treated on site by a paramedic from the Medical Emergency Response Unit (UREM) and stabilized without further complications.
The State Prosecutor’s Office has taken over the investigation into the cause of the fire.
