Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A federal judge has postponed a hearing that will decide whether to grant a permanent suspension to former Playa del Carmen mayor Lili Campos Miranda, who is seeking to block an administrative responsibility procedure stemming from an investigation into a multimillion-peso embezzlement at the municipal government.
The Eighth District Court of Quintana Roo rescheduled the hearing, which had originally been set for September 11 but was delayed because the respondent authority did not act in time. The session is now scheduled for 10:15 a.m. on September 28, 2026.
According to court records reviewed by Sol Quintana Roo, Campos is asking for a ruling that would end the administrative responsibility procedure filed against her under case number OIC/DSCAJ/PRA-041/2025, issued by the Internal Control Office of Playa del Carmen. The judge’s order, issued Thursday, states that the court is not in a position to hold the scheduled hearing and therefore set the new date.
Campos, a member of the National Action Party (PAN), requested federal judicial protection on August 20 after her petitions were dismissed by several other federal courts. She currently holds a provisional suspension granted on August 21 that halts the proceedings against her, for which she was required to post a 10,000-peso bond.
Other former officials who held senior posts during her administration have also been summoned to testify as authorities work to clarify the alleged embezzlement, which could exceed 80 million pesos.
Background
The former mayor’s legal effort focuses on stopping the administrative process while the investigation into the alleged diversion of public funds continues. The provisional suspension keeps the case on hold, but a ruling on whether it will remain in force has yet to be issued.
