Fatal Head-On Crash on Highway 307 Leaves One Dead, One Injured

Emergency personnel at the scene of a fatal head-on collision on Federal Highway 307 in Quintana Roo

Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Quintana Roo — A head-on collision on Federal Highway 307 left one person dead and another injured Thursday morning.

The crash occurred around 7 a.m. on the stretch between the towns of Andrés Quintana Roo and Felipe Carrillo Puerto. A Toyota Hiace van operated by a parcel delivery company collided head-on with a white compact car about 200 meters from the town of Andrés Quintana Roo. The impact sent the car off the roadway and into brush, where it came to rest badly damaged.

The van sustained heavy front-end damage and overturned on the asphalt, blocking traffic for more than an hour.

The driver of the compact car died at the scene, trapped in the twisted wreckage. Red Cross paramedics treated the van driver and transported him to the General Hospital in Felipe Carrillo Puerto for medical attention.

National Guard highway division officers and state highway police cordoned off the area while emergency crews worked. Investigators from the State Prosecutor’s Office, along with investigative police and a public prosecutor, arrived later and documented the scene. The body was removed and sent to the forensic medical service for an autopsy.

Both vehicles were towed to an impound lot. The State Prosecutor’s Office opened an investigation into possible homicide, injury, and property damage charges related to the traffic incident.
