Cozumel, Quintana Roo — The Fundación de Parques y Museos de Cozumel (FPMC), through the Museum of the Island, has opened registration for the “Manga Art en Cozumel 2026” plastic arts contest, set to take place as part of International Youth Day celebrations.
Museum director Isela Carrillo Cupul said the competition targets young drawing and painting enthusiasts, allowing them to showcase their talent through anime and manga characters or original creations inspired by the style.
“We want to bring youth closer to the plastic arts through a theme that is current and appealing to them,” Carrillo Cupul said. “This contest represents an opportunity for them to express their creativity, develop their artistic skills, and share their vision of the world through art.”
The contest features two categories: one for participants aged 12 to 14, and another for those aged 15 to 25. Organizers suggest that entries include an element representative of Cozumel to strengthen participants’ sense of identity and belonging.
Registration is free. Artworks will be accepted from July 27 to 31, 2026, between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. at the Museum of the Island. All pieces must be original and can use any technique, including colored pencils, oil, watercolor, acrylic, pastel chalk, and other materials.
FPMC general director Juanita Alonso Marrufo said the contest promotes active youth participation and the building of a more inclusive and peaceful society, in line with the New Agreement for the Well-being and Development of Quintana Roo promoted by Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa.
“Creating spaces where young people can express themselves, develop their talents, and interact positively contributes to their healthy development and strengthens peacebuilding,” Alonso Marrufo said. “From the FPMC, we will continue promoting initiatives that allow new generations to find tools for growth in art, culture, and creativity.”
