Cozumel’s First Direct Flight from Calgary Lands

Cozumel welcomes its first direct flight from Calgary operated by WestJet

Cozumel, Quintana Roo – The island of Cozumel celebrated this weekend the arrival of its first direct flight from Calgary, Canada, operated by WestJet. The aircraft carried 168 passengers beginning their stay in the Caribbean destination.

Quintana Roo Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa highlighted the event as strengthening the international connectivity of the state’s destinations. The new route consolidates Cozumel as an attractive point for the Canadian market and reaffirms the confidence of international airlines in the island.

Tourism authorities indicated that this air link will not only increase visitor numbers but also boost the local economy, promoting tourism growth that translates into prosperity for families in Cozumel and Quintana Roo. The route from Calgary aims to diversify source markets and maintain stable tourist occupancy, especially during the winter season.

This development occurs within a favorable aviation context for Quintana Roo. Cancún International Airport recorded a record on December 20, 2025, with 686 air operations in a single day, a 13% increase compared to the previous maximum, according to the Southeast Airport Group (ASUR). This performance underscores the strength of the Mexican Caribbean as an international air hub.
