Hundreds of teachers from Quintana Roo took to the streets of Cancún, announcing their intention to commence a work stoppage. The protest was focused on the ISSSTE Law, and has garnered support from teachers across the country.
On Wednesday, approximately three thousand protesters marched along main avenues including Bonampak, Cobá, and Tulum. They congregated at the Plaza de la Reforma to voice their dissatisfaction with the ISSSTE Law. Representatives from the teaching union were present, advocating for a regional work stoppage. This call to action extended to municipalities such as Tulum, Playa del Carmen, Lázaro Cárdenas, and Benito Juárez. There was even mention of a potential protest in Cancún's Hotel Zone, where a meeting with legislators is scheduled to take place.
The teachers planning to strike will remain vigilant regarding federal authorities' decisions on legislation they believe infringes on their rights. They will also continue to encourage their colleagues to join the movement, demanding better conditions and the fulfillment of government promises.
