Cancun Taco Shop Owner Accuses Two Men of Posing as Journalists to Avoid Paying

Two men accused of posing as journalists at a taco shop in Cancun

Cancun, Quintana Roo — The owner of a taco shop in Cancun accused two men of posing as journalists to avoid paying for their meal early Wednesday morning, according to local reports.

The incident occurred at a taqueria in the Haciendas del Caribe neighborhood, in the Supermanzana 200 area. The two men arrived in a black Chevrolet Camaro and, according to employees, were loud and appeared intoxicated, possibly under the influence of alcohol or other substances.

Despite their behavior, staff served them as usual. The men ate and drank for several minutes before the dispute began when the bill arrived.

The owner said the men claimed to be journalists and offered to promote the business on their platforms instead of paying. The owner refused and demanded payment.

The men then got up and headed to their car, apparently trying to leave without paying. Workers and some customers blocked their exit, escalating the confrontation.

According to witnesses, the men began recording videos on their phones, claiming they felt intimidated. The owner also recorded the incident and called 911.

After a tense standoff, the men eventually paid the bill when they realized police had been called.
