Cancun Residents Protest After 24-Hour Power Outage

Residents of Residencial Turquesa in Cancun protest a 24-hour power outage, blocking the main entrance.

Cancun, Quintana Roo — Frustrated by a lack of response from the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), residents of Residencial Turquesa took to the streets to demand the restoration of power after spending 24 hours without electricity.

The blackout began around noon on Monday, affecting dozens of families in the neighborhood. Residents reported spoiled food due to lack of refrigeration and difficulties carrying out daily activities and work, especially for those who work from home.

Protesters gathered at one of the main entrances to the residential complex to draw attention to the problem and call for swift action from the utility company. They also complained that despite reporting the outage, they had received no clear information about the cause or an estimated repair time.

At the scene, a CFE employee was briefly detained by residents demanding a prompt response. Benito Juarez Municipal Secretary Pablo Gutierrez Fernandez also arrived at the site.
