Cancún, Quintana Roo — The City Theater hosted a special session of the municipal council on Monday to award the Sigfrido Paz Paredes Citizen Merit Medal for 2026 to architect and businessman Carlos Constandse Madrazo. The ceremony was part of Cancún’s 56th anniversary celebrations.

Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa and Mayor Ana Paty Peralta attended the event, emphasizing the importance of honoring individuals who have dedicated their lives to strengthening the identity and growth of Mexico’s premier tourist destination.

“Today is a great day because we celebrate 56 years of a consolidated tourist destination that opened its doors to all of us, made us dream, and solidified what we longed for,” Governor Lezama said.

Mayor Peralta reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to preserving the legacy of Cancún’s pioneers and recognized the medal recipient’s work. “Cancún is the sum of many ways of seeing and living it, first the vision of our founders and pioneers. They didn’t just see a destination but a dream they built from scratch… with a legacy that remains alive.”

Upon receiving the distinction, Constandse expressed deep satisfaction and honor, recalling that Sigfrido Paz Paredes served as a true inspiration for generations of entrepreneurs who, without originally being from the tourism sector, integrated into the industry under his guidance.

“This isn’t an award for me, it’s for all the people who have accompanied me with their commitment, vision, and love for this land,” Constandse stated.

The honoree, who has led the Red Cross in Quintana Roo, noted that Paz Paredes was key to preparing and convincing investors about the destination’s potential. His speech included reflections on the city’s future.

“I receive this medal with humility, as it doesn’t represent just personal effort, but the vision of people who have accompanied me for 50 years, as well as my wife Noemí, my source of inspiration, and my entire family,” Constandse added.

He also mentioned that collaborating with the Red Cross has been a driving force in his life. “One of the greatest satisfactions a human being can have is saving another person’s life.”

“The Mexican Red Cross has been one of the most transcendental experiences I’ve had. In 2005, I assumed the role as state delegate, overseeing eight state delegations, and had the honor of serving as national vice president,” he explained.

Constandse highlighted that the impact of the Red Cross is reflected in thousands of services, but beyond the numbers, the recognition belongs to those who daily choose life as their way of life.
