Bacalar, Quintana Roo — Bacalar Mayor José Alfredo Contreras Méndez has ruled out any future political aspirations, including running for Federal Deputy for District 2, following an administration marked by criticism and questions about his performance.
Amid speculation linking him as a possible candidate for the Fourth Transformation, Contreras Méndez stated he will return to his taco shop, leaving politics after three terms as municipal president. This decision could be interpreted as tacit recognition of the limited results and deficiencies of his administration.
The mayor defended his retirement by citing personal reasons and the need to make way for new generations, though the decision also reflects the inability to consolidate a successful political project and the loss of citizen support.
During his three terms leading the municipality, Contreras Méndez claimed to have maintained excellent coordination, but this did not translate into tangible improvements for the population, particularly in public services and local economic development.
With these statements, José Alfredo Contreras Méndez suggests his political cycle has ended due to a lack of significant achievements and pressure from citizens questioning his ability to effectively lead the municipality.
