Robbery of 100,000 pesos outside Chetumal bank

Police investigating robbery outside Banco Azteca in Chetumal where 100,000 pesos were stolen

Chetumal, Quintana Roo — A citizen who had just withdrawn money from a Banco Azteca branch in Chetumal was victim of an armed robbery by assailants who stole 100,000 pesos in cash as he was heading to his vehicle. After reporting the incident to authorities, no arrests were made.

The incident occurred in the parking lot located on Corozal Avenue between Erick Paolo Martínez Avenue and Tierra Sur Street, next to the Banco Azteca branch where a citizen was leaving after withdrawing 100,000 pesos in cash. A pair of individuals intercepted him from behind and stole the bag containing the money.

According to the victim’s account, the subjects were traveling on a black motorcycle with red stripes, and one of them made a gesture as if he was going to pull a firearm from his clothing. This intimidated the victim, who decided to hand over the money to avoid becoming a victim of an armed attack.

After the incident, authorities were called and responded promptly, interviewing the victim about what happened. After obtaining information about the events, they initiated a search operation in the areas surrounding the crime scene.

However, after several minutes, the search ended without positive results as police officers were unable to locate the criminals, so no arrests were reported in this case.

Finally, police urged the victim to go to the facilities of the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) to file the corresponding complaint against those responsible and to open an investigation file on the case to locate the criminals and bring them before the law to determine their legal situation.

It is worth mentioning that this is not the first robbery to occur under these circumstances, as there have previously been robberies of large sums of money shortly after victims withdraw cash from banks in the capital city. In some cases, criminals even follow victims to their homes to steal their money, and authorities have been unable to locate the perpetrators.
