Cancún, Mexico — Benito Juárez Municipal President Ana Paty Peralta has confirmed the implementation of new official operating hours for bars, restaurants, nightclubs, and authorized alcohol sales establishments, following approval by the City Council. The measure, set to take effect this Sunday, aims to enhance public safety in Cancún.
Revised Closing Times for Urban and Tourist Zones
Peralta announced via a statement on her official social media accounts that establishments in urban areas must close by 2:00 a.m., while those in the tourist zone may operate until 3:00 a.m.
“This is a necessary measure, part of a comprehensive strategy to build peace and restore social cohesion. The goal is to prevent traffic accidents and reduce domestic violence linked to excessive alcohol consumption,” Peralta stated.
She emphasized that women, children, and the elderly often suffer violence in contexts of addiction. “Families are being hurt and broken,” she said, stressing the need for decisive and responsible action.
Enforcement and Collaboration
Peralta added that the municipal government will coordinate with the State Government through the Quintana Roo Tax Administration Service (SATQ), regulatory agencies, and the Municipal Secretary’s Office to conduct inspections ensuring compliance. Operations will also target illegal alcohol sales.
“We need the cooperation of business owners, workers, and the public to achieve the objectives of this measure for the benefit of all,” she said.
“Now more than ever, Cancún unites us in fostering healthy environments of harmony and peace. Protecting each other is a shared responsibility—join us and comply,” Peralta concluded.
