Quintana Roo — Sixteen men have been formally charged with domestic violence in six municipalities across Quintana Roo, with victims including women, minors, and other family members, the state prosecutor’s office announced.
Judges issued the charges based on investigations into incidents that occurred between May 23 and June 5 in Benito Juárez, Othón P. Blanco, Playa del Carmen, Cozumel, Tulum, and José María Morelos.
According to case files, the alleged attacks included beatings, threats, psychological abuse, and verbal aggression against partners, ex-partners, children, mothers, and sisters. One of the most serious cases took place in Othón P. Blanco, where a suspect allegedly threatened his ex-partner with a knife and forced his minor son to handle firearms.
In Benito Juárez, most cases involved physical assaults against women, though authorities also documented violence against minors and other household members, highlighting the dangerous environment victims faced in their own homes.
Charges were also filed against suspects in Playa del Carmen, Cozumel, Tulum, and José María Morelos, where investigations reportedly showed repeated physical and psychological attacks against women and relatives.
As a precautionary measure, ten of the accused will remain in pretrial detention while the criminal proceedings continue.
