Mérida, Yucatán — The Yucatan Peninsula is set to experience intense heat on Wednesday, with temperatures reaching up to 40°C (104°F) in some areas, according to the National Meteorological Service (SMN).
The heat is attributed to the influence of the Mexican Monsoon and cyclonic circulations. In Mérida, the state capital, temperatures are forecast to range from a low of 20.3°C (68.5°F) to a high of 38.3°C (100.9°F). Other municipalities in Yucatán could see highs between 37°C and 42°C (98.6°F to 107.6°F). Skies will be mostly clear with light winds around 11 km/h (7 mph).
In contrast, Quintana Roo will experience milder conditions. Cancún and Chetumal are expected to reach highs of 31°C (87.8°F) with lows near 24.3°C (75.7°F) and cloudy skies. Tulum and Playa del Carmen will see highs of 32.3°C (90.1°F) and lows around 22.3°C to 22.7°C (72.1°F to 72.9°F).
Rainfall probability remains low across the peninsula, with mostly clear to partly cloudy skies. Winds will be moderate, ranging from 10 to 14 km/h (6 to 9 mph), and no strong wind alerts have been issued.
The extended forecast for the coming days shows a gradual decrease in maximum temperatures toward the weekend, though conditions will remain warm. Cloud cover is expected to increase, with overcast skies likely by Friday.
Authorities advise residents and visitors to stay hydrated, avoid direct sun exposure between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., wear light-colored and breathable clothing, and apply high-SPF sunscreen to prevent heatstroke and dehydration.
