Cancun, Quintana Roo — Tropical Storm Dolly formed Thursday morning in the central Atlantic Ocean, roughly 5,155 kilometers (3,203 miles) east of Cancun, Mexico’s National Water Commission (CONAGUA) said.
Because of its distance from Mexico, the storm is not expected to have any effects on the country.
In its 9 a.m. advisory, CONAGUA said Dolly was located about 2,505 kilometers (1,557 miles) east of the Leeward Islands, with maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour (40 mph) and gusts up to 85 km/h (53 mph). The storm was moving west at 39 km/h (24 mph).
Quintana Roo’s Civil Protection agency said the storm poses no danger to national territory but asked the public to continue monitoring its development, as tropical systems can change rapidly.
Authorities urged residents to rely on official information sources and avoid sharing unverified reports about the storm’s track or intensity. No impacts are expected for Cancun or other municipalities in Quintana Roo.
