Mérida, Yucatán — With the objective of generating spaces and opportunities for both emerging and established musical talent in Yucatán, the Secretariat of Culture and the Arts (Sedeculta) will hold the Yucatán Music Showcase 2025. The event will allow artists from various municipalities to present their projects to concert programmers from Mexico and Central America.
Circuits in Motion and Artistic Training
From September 23 to 25, as part of the Circuits in Motion program, 31 soloists and groups performing genres such as Mayan rap, indie rock, pop, jazz, and classical music will participate in training workshops and business rounds. These activities are designed to promote professionalization within the music sector.
Over the three days, eight groups will perform live for programmers and representatives of national and international festivals, representing a key opportunity for their career advancement.
Selected Artists and Open Call
Among the selected artists are Los Detectives, Pedro Honda, Dary Alva, Moon Jungle, Jet Lag, Yaalen K’uj, Val Hozu, and Twin Machine. They were chosen through an open call organized by Sedeculta throughout the state.
The showcase will offer participants the possibility to exhibit their talent before sector professionals, including Gerry Rosado, coordinator of Conexión México at the Guadalajara International Music Fair; Carlos Edrey Rodríguez, festival coordinator for the Campeche Institute of Culture; and Itzel Ruíz Fernández, a programmer in the Subdirectorate of Integration and Programming of Major Festivals for Mexico City.
Professionals from Mexico and Central America in Attendance
Also in attendance will be Victoria García, director of the Cancún International Music Festival; Zaira Marleny Pacajoj Morales, general coordinator of Centroamérica Mercado Musical; Gino Zúñiga, director of the Foro Bajo Circuito in Mexico City; and Miriam Báez, co-founder of the booking agency Mango Music Group.
Sedeculta Drives Professionalization of the Music Sector
During the presentation of the program, the head of Sedeculta, Patricia Martín Briceño, emphasized that the Yucatán Music Showcase and the Circuits in Motion program represent a strategic investment for the music sector.
“This project offers artists tools for professionalization, specialized training, and meeting spaces with specialists in key locations for concert and show programming,” she explained.
Musical September and Artistic Diversity in Yucatán
The showcase is part of Musical September, a program with which Sedeculta celebrates the artistic diversity of Yucatán. This month included the Gala of Guest Directors of the "Luis Luna Guarneros" Symphonic Band, featuring the participation of Aarón Sánchez Yerves, Enrique Canabal Ávila, and Francisco Gamboa Fierro, musicians recognized throughout the country's southeast.
Furthermore, on September 25, the concert "Voces Emergentes Vol. 3" will be held at the Palacio de la Música with free admission. It will feature the Mexico City band Sueño a Marte and the Yucatecan female group Laboratoria, presenting a musical proposal ranging from indie and pop to trip hop.
Through these activities, Sedeculta reaffirms its commitment not only to traditional music like trova and jarana but also to creating platforms that give visibility to emerging artists and strengthen creative diversity in Yucatán.
