Mérida, Yucatán — Yucatán Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena met with business leaders, municipal authorities, and tourism sector representatives in Valladolid to discuss strategies for strengthening the city’s economic and tourism potential.

Accompanied by Valladolid Mayor Homero Novelo Burgos, the governor listened to proposals from local entrepreneurs to create an action agenda that would attract investment, boost tourism, generate jobs, and translate economic growth into greater well-being for families in Valladolid and the eastern region of the state.

During the meeting, Díaz Mena emphasized that the “Maya Renaissance” is being built with participation from all sectors of society, combining capabilities, experience, and local knowledge to design solutions tailored to each region’s needs and strengths.

The governor acknowledged the incorporation of Liborio Vidal Aguilar, a businessman and former public servant from Valladolid. His experience in regional economic development, knowledge of the area, and ties to the productive sector will help craft proposals to consolidate the tourism potential of eastern Yucatán as part of a strategy based on institutional coordination and input from those familiar with local opportunities.

The meeting reaffirmed that Yucatán’s development requires joint efforts among the three levels of government, the private sector, and society, with institutional coordination to identify challenges, seize opportunities, and promote orderly, inclusive, and sustainable growth.

Participants included José Manuel Aguilar Méndez, a Valladolid businessman and CEO of Grupo Joyero San Román, recognized for his work in the productive sector and initiatives that strengthen economic and tourism development in eastern Yucatán, along with other tourism-sector entrepreneurs who contributed proposals to enhance the region’s tourism appeal, investment, and economic growth.
