Cozumel, Quintana Roo — A seventh consecutive fundraising drive has brought total community contributions for the Cozumel Fire Department to nearly 3 million pesos over seven years.
The latest campaign was organized by the Patronato de Bomberos, a support board for the fire department, together with the Cozumel Foundation and the municipal government, which have promoted the efforts since 2021. During a symbolic handover of the proceeds, Patronato member Octavio Rivero Gual highlighted the participation of residents, visitors and businesses, including supermarket chain Mega Soriana and the SSA Mexico, Punta Langosta and Puerta Maya cruise terminals.
The accumulated funds from the collection drives approach 3 million pesos. When additional contributions for training and specialized equipment donations are included, resources managed by the organizers reach nearly 8 million pesos.
Rivero Gual said the donations go directly to operational needs such as uniforms, radios, maintenance and spare parts, ensuring that emergency vehicles and tools remain in good working condition.
The sustained support from the community, organizations and companies has allowed the program to continue for seven years, strengthening the fire department’s ability to respond to fires, rescues and other emergencies on the island.
